What is a radio trigger system?
What is a radio trigger system?
A reliable and convenient radio triggering system is the key to working with flash. It is now the most popular solution for flash triggering, having displaced sync cables and photo cells over the years. The Godox X System is one of the most advanced yet very user-friendly systems. It allows triggering and controlling studio flashes equipped with built-in receivers (or receivers plugged in separately).
However, this is not its only purpose - it is also used by the speedlights available in our offer. Thanks to it, we are not limited to using them only on the camera hot shoe. You can mount a speedlite on a light stand and not only trigger its flash, but also adjust its parameters. Additional feature is the possibility of grouping the flashes and setting the power/function separately for the units in the groups. It is a very convenient solution!
Although the subject of radio systems may sound complicated, in this article we will try to answer your questions and explain the issues related to the operation and use of the Godox X system. In the following text, you will learn what are its advantages, examples of devices operating within its framework, as well as solutions to common problems. We encourage you to read it!

Advantages of using the Godox X System
The Godox System is used by hobbyists triggering single flashes as well as professionals building and working with complex lighting systems. Deciding to get into the Godox X System comes with access to a lot of convenience using advanced technology. In a nutshell:
- Despite its advanced features, the system is super easy to use, which is further helped by the user-friendly interface.

- Most Godox flashes currently on offer have a built-in System X receiver. So you don't have to worry about plugging in additional devices. Just a camera with a transmitter on and a flash - that's all it takes!
- TTL/HSS - System X is capable of carrying full automatics. So it is possible to work in TTL mode or advanced functions such as HSS, strobo mode, etc.
- The flash can be controlled with a transmitter, but also with a speedlites that is attached to the camera's hotshoe! This is a convenient solution that is often used by wedding photographers during reportage.

Godox X System Product Overview
Are you interested in getting into the Godox X System, but don't know where to start? The most common questions are those related to equipment compatibility - which lights can I use with which triggers? Do I need an additional receiver? In order to straighten out the whole situation for you, in the following paragraphs we present examples of devices included in the Godox X system.

• Transmitters
The triggers for the Godox X system have many features in common - each supports advanced features available on the flashes, such as TTL (flash automatics) or HSS (sync times shorter than 1/250). All also provide easy-to-read LCD screens, displaying information about the current mode, light parameters and grouping.
The models available in our offer are:
◘ X2 - improved version of X1 triggers, it introduces a new scanning function, so that the channel with the least interference will be detected automatically. Like its predecessor, it offers 5 groups into which the lamps can be divided, and 32 available communication channels. The X2 transmitters can be controlled via the Godox Photo App.
◘  Xpro - the most advanced solution in the family of radio triggers. It is the only one that offers the possibility of dividing lamps into as many as 16 groups - it was created with a view to highly expanded lighting systems. It also has the largest screen.

 • Camera Flashes
Known to almost every photographer, speedlights often decorate the hotshoe of our cameras. However, thanks to their radio receiver for the Godox X system, they can also be triggered outside the camera - for example, mounted on a stand or held in the hand by an assistant. "Reporters" Godox TT series are powered by AA batteries, while the V series uses a special powerful rechargeable battery.
Examples of Godox speedlights with receivers for the X system are:
◘ V860III - an advanced, high-powered device equipped with a modeling light and a switch for quick mode change from manual to TTL. It offers high-speed sync both on-camera and with remote triggering.
TT685II - a versatile flash that combines all the essential features - flash automation, High Speed Sync, exposure compensation and fast charge time.
◘ V350 - a compact flash with a guide number of GN = 36. Despite a slightly weaker flash, it supports all the advanced features available in more advanced reporter flashes such as TTL and HSS.
V1 - a unique solution in the Godox offer, that is a light with a round head with a large surface area, providing a more even and soft light. It has been additionally equipped with a LED modelling light. The magnetic fastening of accessories enables the use of dedicated light modifiers from the AK-R1 set.
◘ TT600 - basic model working in manual mode. Inexpensive and powerful, also supports HSS, allowing synchronization with exposure times up to 1/8000 of a second. It can be used with all cameras equipped with a standard ISO foot with a central pin, which makes it a multi-system option.

• Studio flashes
An essential element of equipment of every professional photographic studio - they offer very strong light and a wide beam of light which, combined with modifiers, gives the best possible effects of work on a photo set. All studio lamps currently offered in our offer are equipped with built-in radio receivers - thus, when choosing a lamp for a studio, you can focus only on the parameters you need and you do not have to be afraid of incompatibility. Each model is also equipped with a commonly used Bowens type accessory mount, allowing an almost infinite range of light modifiers.
Among the Godox studio lamps we can list:
◘ SK II series - simple and inexpensive flashes with power adjustments from 1/16 to 1/1, short recharge times and a 150-power modeling light bulb whose brightness can be set to proportional to mimic the effects of the flash power setting for pre-visualization of the photo. A built-in System X receiver rounds out the flash's tremendous functionality. It comes in two variants differing in maximum flash energy - 300 and 400 Ws.
DPIII series - a line of lamps with a wider range of power adjustment, from 1/1 to 1/64. Charging time is only 1 s at maximum flash. The lamp saves the light parameters used by the photographer and restores them when switched on again. Four versions of lamps are available within this series - 400, 600, 800 and 1000 Ws.

There are also flashes with lower or higher maximum power available within this series.

Technical FAQ
• How to connect the transmitter with the flash?
Mount the transmitter on the hot shoe of the camera and lock it on. Then turn on the camera and the transmitter. Set the channel of your choice using the function buttons on the transmitter. Next, turn on the flash, set the channel that is the same as the one on the transmitter (and also the ID if the flash has one!). After completing these steps, the connection between the lamp and the transmitter should be achieved. For detailed information, we encourage you to refer to the manual of the specific model of the trigger.

• What type of flashes can I trigger with System X?
The majority of flashes in the Godox portfolio use the X System. These include all studio, outdoor and speedlight series V1 / V350 / V850 / V860 and TT350 / TT600 / TT685 / TT685II. An exception may be made for older devices such as E250/300 and DSII lights.

• Why is the group and channel selection used?
Selecting the channel of communication is essential to connect the flash to the camera and it is through this channel that the signal to trigger the flash is transmitted. When more than one session/studio is using the Godox radio system nearby - this will avoid interference.
Grouping allows you to set different modes and power values for the individual lights involved in the session. It is indispensable when, for example, the main light, the supplementary light and the background lighting require different flash power - this is only possible by using groups in our system.

• I use Quadralite Navigator X - can I combine the two systems?
Yes, the Quadralite Navigator X and Godox X are brother systems that are fully compatible with each other and can be used interchangeably to trigger flashes from both brands. The Godox X system is also supported by all Quadralite brand flashes, is fully compatible with it and guarantees full, unlimited functionality.

• Can I use Godox X transmitters and receivers to trigger other brands of flashes?
Yes, the Godox X system can also include lamps from other manufacturers with the purchase of additional compatible radio receivers. However in this case you will only be able to trigger the lamps without the option of adjusting their light parameters

• Why all triggers use 2.4 GHz frequency?
This is simply the most optimal communication frequency for these devices. The earlier Godox triggering system with the FT16 transmitter was based on a lower frequency of 433 MHz, but this offered a much shorter operating range and was more susceptible to interference.
